Fort Meade
Some local history
An old town on the Peace River
Fort Meade is the oldest city in Polk County. It grew up along a military road laid out by a young Lieutenant George Meade, and the city counts more than 150 buildings as designated landmarks. US-17 runs north-south through town toward Bartow, and US-98 turns east on Broadway toward Frostproof.
The Peace River runs past town, and the city's Outdoor Recreation Area is the official start of the Peace River Paddling Trail. The surrounding land is Bone Valley phosphate country, much of it mined and reclaimed.
Good fits
Paver projects that suit Fort Meade properties
Front walks for older homes
Replacing a cracked walk with pavers in a color and pattern that suit the house.
Shaded patios under the oaks
Patios laid out around big trees, with digging kept away from major roots.
Parking pads and drive aprons
Paving the busiest part of a long drive, where cars turn and park.

On the ground
Building on Bone Valley soil
Soil around Fort Meade can be sandy in one yard and clay-heavy in the next, and lots near reclaimed land can be uneven. We probe the area, check where the water goes after a storm, and design the base around what we find.
When an older paver or concrete surface has settled, we look for the cause first. That's usually washout, missing edges or roots, and fixing it is what keeps the repair from failing again.
Questions
Fort Meade FAQ
Will pavers look right on an older home?
Yes, if the color and pattern suit the house. A tumbled or clay-toned paver in a running bond or herringbone pattern often fits an older Fort Meade home better than a modern gray slab look. We'll bring options to the estimate.
My lot is big and the driveway is long. Can you do just part of it?
Yes. Many owners pave the section near the house and the parking area first and leave the rest for later. We'll price it both ways if you'd like.
Is Fort Meade too far south for you?
No. It's about 23 miles from Lakeland, around 35 minutes via Bartow and US-17, and the estimate is free.
